Privacy policy

1. Introduction

Raiment is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can exercise your rights.

2. Information we collect

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal information (e.g. biometric data) as part of Phase 1 or Phase 2 as currently scoped. If a future virtual try-on feature is introduced, this policy will be updated before that data is collected, with a clear explanation of how it's processed and stored.

  • Account information: name, email, and any profile details you provide.
  • Search and usage data: keyword searches, budget inputs, category preferences, and browsing behavior — used to show relevant "wardrobe" results.
  • Uploaded content (Phase 2): fabric photos and project descriptions you submit to the designer marketplace. If an AI-generated design feature is used, the generated design image is also stored against your project.
  • Designer information: if you register as a designer, we collect your business/profile details, location, portfolio images, and availability.
  • Technical data: standard web analytics (device type, general location for "near me" features, cookies — see below).

3. Why we process your information

  • To provide search, wardrobe recommendations, and category browsing
  • To connect you with designers and facilitate appointment bookings (Phase 2)
  • To improve the accuracy and relevance of results shown to you
  • To communicate with you about your account or bookings
  • To meet legal obligations where applicable

4. Who we share it with

  • Third-party stores: we do not share your personal data with the stores shown in comparison results — clicking through simply takes you to their site directly.
  • Designers: if you submit a project (fabric photo, description, or AI-generated design), the relevant details are shared with designers browsing available projects, and with the designer you book an appointment with.
  • Service providers: we may use third-party infrastructure (e.g. hosting, database, and — in future phases — AI image-generation vendors) to operate Raiment. These providers only process data on our instructions.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

5. Cross-border processing

Some service providers we use (hosting, and any future AI vendors) may process data outside South Africa. Where this applies, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives an equivalent level of protection, as required under POPIA.

6. Data retention

We retain account and project data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. Fabric photos and project postings are retained for as long as the project remains active or as needed to support a completed booking, after which they may be deleted or anonymized.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to any legal retention requirements
  • Object to processing of your information in certain circumstances
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorized access, or disclosure. No system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

9. Cookies

Raiment uses cookies for essential site functionality and to understand usage patterns.

10. Children's privacy

Raiment is not intended for use by children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Raiment's features evolve, particularly as Phase 2 features (designer marketplace, AI-generated designs) go live. Material changes will be communicated to users.
